Outlaw Hydrographics and the Custom Design Process
Outlaw Hydrographics specializes in hydrographic printing—also known as immersion printing, water transfer printing, hydro-dipping, camouflage dipping, or hydro printing. Simply put, it’s a custom paint application process that allows us to apply unique designs to nearly any three-dimensional object. Located just south of Myrtle Beach, SC, we’ve been proudly serving customers since November 2013. Over the years, we’ve successfully completed thousands of high-quality hydrographic projects. The Water-Ink Transfer Process:
The custom hydrographic process begins with selecting a pattern to be applied to your desired item. This pattern comes in the form of a water-soluble vinyl film, which is cut to fit the specific dimensions of the part to be dipped. The film is then carefully placed on the surface of clean water in our specially designed stainless-steel tank used for water transfer printing. A chemical activator is sprayed onto the film, dissolving it and transforming the design into a liquid ink pattern that floats evenly on the water's surface. At this stage, your item is ready to be dipped. As it is slowly immersed into the tank, the displacement of water allows the ink pattern to wrap smoothly around the contours of the object, creating a seamless and uniform application. Once removed from the tank, the item is thoroughly rinsed and then finished with a durable, automotive-grade clear coat. This final step enhances the appearance and provides long-lasting protection, resulting in a high-quality, professional finish.
